Freelance Work: Staying Organized
Well, like so many other people nowadays, the financial crisis has me worried about money so I am taking on more freelance work to supplement my family’s income. Just this week alone, I accepted writing work from two more firms that specialize in article writing. I also got asked to join a project that will involve writing more and longer articles for better pay. It’s getting to the point where I can no longer just work when I want to. I have to treat my writing work as a regular “job” with set hours every week to meet my financial objectives. If I don’t do this, I won’t be able to meet deadlines and make money. So it’s absolutely vital that I keep myself very organized.
To organize myself and keep on task with all the projects I have going on, I have designed a spreadsheet and am keeping track of work as it is due and as I complete it. I was able to upload it to my Google Docs so I can utilize it anywhere I have web access. So far, it’s helping tremendously! I can set up new clients, set deadlines for myself as projects come in, and post completed projects to see my progress. I can even use this spreadsheet at the end of the month when I am ready to invoice my clients for the work I’ve completed.
So far using this spreadsheet and Google Docs has been a life-saver when it comes to staying organized with my freelance work.
